Once you HAVE your website like Xtream Global or a page that promotes one of your businesses like Ethos FR or businesses like Launchapage you need to TELL some of the Engines it exists. The easiest way to submit to those Engines which require what is called a 'Manual' submission is to do so via a SUBMITTER. There are some free resources listed on this page. When you use a submitter to enroll your site in the Engines, make sure you use an email account that you do NOT have a box cleaner on and one you access frequently. You usually receive validation links from many of the Engines you must process.
Web-based SE Submitter:
While this is actually a paid resource they offer a simply wonderful free download and limited service that works just as well as the paid service. Good to get familiar with the product and handle one or a few sites. It is not an exactly easy resource to set up, understand or use but very powerful and effective.
With the Major Engines you do not have to submit to them. Instead, you CALL THEM TO YOU. Certain activities alert the Majors you have a website and will send their Bots over to index your site. Activities like posting your link to FFA sites, adding your link to your blog and publishing the blog, using the Alexa Rank Enhancer and traffic exchanges for example can call the Major Engines like Google, MSN and Yahoo to your site.
If you have control over it, there are many ways to OPTIMIZE your page to attract the Engines to you as well.

* Do I have to submit to the Engines?
No, but it helps. In fact some people never submit their sites to the Engines. If they are in control of their own pages they can configure their sites and optimize their pages to actually call the Engines over to them for indexing. However, however to reach the many search engines which do not have robots that find websites, should consider submitting to those Engines.
* I submitted, now what?:
Drive traffic to your site, link your site to other sites. Do those things which boost your ranking in the Engines as described in Conquer The Engines article.
