Groups:
..............................................................................................................

Groups like Yahoo and MSN were early forms of what we now call Safe lists. Groups are often called Ezines and are internet advertising specialties for the online marketer.

Yahoo puts several restraints on your Group Email marketing:

1. If joining via email, you cannot email join more than 10 groups in one day

2. When emailing Groups via your own server/isp/email account, you cannot email more than 50 email address at a time - and that is pushing the limit.

You can join, log in and post your emails to as many Groups as you want through their weblinks. When first setting up a Groups program, I highly recommend you do just that - take the time to join the Groups through their weblinks. Set up your sites and post your first ad. There are a number of Groups listed on the forum. Set your own pace and join however many you like.

Each Group will have an email link you can use to post your ads via your yahoo email account. As you join, you may want to record that link so you can post some of your ads via email rather than logging onto each individual site. You can then set up a schedule to manually post your emails to the Groups and/or arrange your Groups in lots of 50 or less.

While Groups, especially Yahoo Groups, where at first called Ezines (and many still refer to them as such) there is actually a clear difference between Groups and actual Ezines. The main difference is that Groups (like Yahoo) are free to join and then free for members to post ads and links. Ezines tend to be on different scripts and are usually paid venues - although some of them will offer a free membership option. There are many types of ezines on the Internet. This discussion centers on GROUPS, especially the Yahoo Groups.

Groups also fall into two Catagories - Email and Link Marketing. Most all Groups offer an email feature similar to a safe list in which members can email each other their offers. Many ALSO offer permanent link spots - making them very useful in your Search Engine marketing.

Most Yahoo Groups have several features:

* An EMAIL feature:
Members can email the other members. Times depend upon how the Group Owner set the site up. This can vary from daily to once monthly. Email is sent to the opt-in members. Should you decide to leave a Group, remember to opt-out.

* A LINK feature:
This allows you to post links, which are useful for your Link Marketing. While many owners allow links, some do not.

These are PERMISSION based venues. You must join each Group and agree (opt-in) to the program. The times you are allowed to post to Groups can vary from once monthly to once daily. Even more so than with Safelists, the effectiveness in using Groups usually lies in the NUMBER of Groups you belong to and then post to on a daily basis. This then means submitter - and that is the really tricky part about Groups - especially the Yahoo ones.

Group Email marketing can be tedious and time consuming and even risky using your own yahoo email service. Because of the time involved in sending emails to Groups, I personally tend to value them more as a LINK MARKETING venue. There are a number of Groups listed on the forum.

If you choose to add Groups to your marketing portfolio think of it as a "Group Project." Take your time and join each Group using one yahoo email account you set up specifically for your Groups. As you join each Group, add your links. If you intend to post your ads manually to the Groups, find each Group's email address and create groups of 25 or less email addresses in your Yahoo email address section.
